my banned book title: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
my thoughts: I don’t know why someone would feel strong enough about what happened in this book to feel the need to have it banned.
my questions: Why was it banned? Why would people care? Why would they feel that strong about it? Who was it offending?
my to-do list: Go over project requirements. Go over book plot again.
Question 1: What is the plot of the book? A boy from Kubal names Amir witnesses his friend Hassan getting raped and does nothing to stop it. As the years pass, Amir has to leave home after living a peaceful life. He moves to America and has to deal with all of lifes challenges.
Question 2: How does the author use two or more literary elements in the book? The author uses foreshadowing when he describes how Amir feels after not stopping his friend from getting raped. The author also uses irony because Amir has such a great childhood but a dark and sad childhood at the same time.
Question 3: How have other people reviewed the book, especially critics? Critics have given the book positive reviews and praised it for dealing with the issues it deals with and not editing them out of book.
Question 4: Why should the book be banned? Give at least two reasons with evidence please. This book should not be banned. If you don’t like it don’t read it.
Question 5: Why should the book not be banned? Give at least two reasons with evidence please. People have the right to read what they want. Also, you can’t edit something because the subject matter is something people don’t want to talk about.
Question 6: What other books has this author wrote?: Khalad Hosseini also wrote O Cacador de Pipas and A Thousand Splendid Suns.
Question 7: Why did Amir and his father move to the United States: Amir and his father left Afghanistan because the Soviets took over and it was not safe for anyone living in the country to be there anymore.
Question 8: Are the events in the authors books based on events in his life: Yes and No. Hosseini was born in Afghanistan and then moved to the United States. Those events happened in the books but most of the other parts were made up or exaggerated.
